Quality Programme organizes "The Application of the Consumer Protection Law"

Under the patronage of the Minister of Economy and Trade, Damascus Chamber of Industry, in cooperation with the Quality Programme, organise a seminar entitled "Participation in the application of the Consumer Protection law and the role of different actors for the success of its application".

The seminar will be held on Tuesday, 15/03/2011 at 5:00 pm in Al Assad National Library.

The seminar aims to introduce the requirements of the Consumer Protection law (no. 2, issued in 2008) and current and future measures to implement the law. This includes notably the rights and duties of the concerned parties, and a discussion on how the requirements given in the Consumer Protection law are implemented in Syria. A comparison will be made between the situation at the national, regional and international levels, and will shed light on the roles and duties of various stakeholders in order to successfully apply all requirements in order to reach the ultimate goal – a safe market characterised by fair trading.

Market Surveillance is a fundamental component for the Quality Programme (funded by the EU), which is modernising and developing the Syrian legislation related to the needed Quality Infrastructure.  A functioning system for Market Surveillance (MS) requires also support to the Consumer Protection Association, which is the focal point for receiving consumer complaints and supporting consumer rights; the organisation of training courses for MS inspectors, responsible for sampling and field inspections; and the preparation of information booklets and seminars in order to increase the awareness of both consumers and producers.
