   Recommendation statements of the Euro-Arab Conference for Supporting SMEs– 28/02/2010

In the concluding session of the Euro-Arab Conference for Supporting SMEs held on 21 February, 2010 called for the following recommendations:

  1. Establishing an Arab-Euro Business Council for the follow-up of implementation of conference recommendations with the indication that such conference a will enhance Arab-Euro economic, industrial, investment and trade relations, increase growth rates and enhance social and economic development in both regions.
  2. Enhancing the role of human recourses in developing Small and Medium Industries through training and rehabilitation.
  3. Supporting innovation and creativity by connecting potential innovative investors through networks of business incubators and start-up support centres.
  4. Establishing an Arab export development centre for supporting SME exports to the EU with the indication to the 500 thousand Euros granted by the EU for joint projects in this area.
  5. Benefiting from the Arab-European Communication Office and its channels in Malta in cooperation with the Secretariat General of the Arab League, the European Commission and the Maltese Republic
  6. Facilitating access of SMEs to financial products and services through distribution and publication of relevant information on how to access current networks of investors and financiers
  7. Stressing the importance of communication and coordination with the General Secretariat of the Arab League as a sign of appreciation for the patronage of the General Secretariat of the Arab League of the conference
  8. Focusing on supporting SMEs in Palestine in future sessions of the Euro-Arab Conference for Supporting SMEs as a sign of appreciation for assistance and support provided by General Secretariat of the Arab League and European Commission to Palestinian citizens
  9. AIDMO and SEBC signed a Memo of Understanding (MoU)
  10. The second session of the Euro-Arab Conference for Supporting SMEs will be held in one of the states of either region in the beginning of 2011

 

In his speech during the concluding session, Dr Abdulla al-Dardari, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs said that the government has sought to provide a competitive trade and economic environment for all enterprises. “Supporting SMEs is an economic duty that achieves national interests”.

He highlighted the importance of Syrian youth participation and leadership in such conferences and in the Syrian economy.
