COMPANY OVERVIEW:

The company is a public sector company and belongs to the General Company for Textile Industries, established in 1997. This company is specialized in spinning cotton yarns with a turnover of about USD 55 million. The company employs 2055 persons from whom 25 engineers and 120 technicians. The capital investment reached USD 80 million. The yarns produced are of top quality (better than 25% USTER statistics issued in 1998). The company has two spinning mills: one for combed yarns (about 15000 sqm. area) and another for carded yarns about 35000 sqm. area. All production halls are equipped with top quality air conditioning systems.

PRODUCTS:

Raw materials: Virgin Syrian cotton

Products range:

• Cotton yarns, combed NE 1/20 up to 1/40 Eng. (average 1/32), annual capacity is 3000 tons.
• Cotton yarns, carded NE 1/12 up to 1/36 Eng. (average 1/24), annual capacity is 12000 tons.
• Both products have guaranteed USTER standard.
• Secondary products: about 2500 - 3000 tons / year of cotton waste.

Sales:

The company sells about 80% of its products directly to EU countries (Germany, Switzerland, and England, Belgium, Italy, and Portugal). The local market consumes the rest 20% of production.

Manufacturing facilities

The company has:

• 5 Opening and carding (made by Trutschler Germany)
• 19 pre and 19 post drawing frames (made by Hara Japan)
• 18 combers in combed mill and 3 lap formers (made by Hara Japan)
• 36 speed frames (made by Zinser Germany)
• 108 ring frames (130000 spindles) (made by Zinser Germany)
• 36 auto coners (made by Schlafhorst Germany)
• 2 Laboratories one for cotton fibers and the second for yarns
• Training Centre

All machines and equipment are manufactured during 1994-1998

Quality control system:

The quality control department directs all quality control operations during manufacturing.

The company uses the American bale management system for cotton mix.

Yarns produced are ring spun, spliced, measured in length and packed in cartoons and on pallets.

ISO 9002 is in process.

BUSINESS OBJECTIVES:

The company is looking for:

• Upgrading of its equipment: contamination free equipment in both opening and winding sectors.
• Upgrading of product: preparation for USTER 1997.
• Technical assistance and supplying of spare parts
• Increasing export sales through new distributors.
• Training for staff (know how).
• Completing a new project for 1999 to produce 12000 tons/year of carded, ring spun cotton yarns.
